Pre-Christmas Sales!!

It's not even Christmas yet, and the sales have already started.  I can't believe it!!  Between my emails and the ads in the newspaper, I am getting blasted with sale notices.

I got the email today from Zara that their sale will begin tomorrow.  And they have the best sales!!!  Incredible prices!!!

Then in the Chicago Tribune, there was a small ad for Barney's New York for 60% off!!  That's a pretty big sale for Barney's, especially before Christmas.  It's unheard of!!

There was also a full page ad in the Trib for Bloomingale's for their huge sale.  I can't recall the last time that there were huge sales right before Christmas.

But truth be told....the weekend before Christmas is always the busiest shopping weekend of the holiday season.  I know that everyone always talks about Black Friday, but it's the procrastinators that make the sales jump.

So, happy shopping the rest of this holiday season.  And happy sales shopping.

Be safe and enjoy your day!

Magazine Covers

Yesterday while I was standing in line to check out at the Grocery store, I was looking at all of the magazines covers.  And I had plenty of time to look.  There was only one cashier checking out everyone at the store.  The one line was so long!!!  Once again I noticed that celebrities were on all of the covers, not models.  There was only one exception, Cindy Crawford was on one cover, and I think it was Shape magazine.

So again, I have to ask....Are celebrities taking over super models.  You see, when a celebrity is on the cover of a magazine, they normally do a fashion photo spread inside.  Pages full of photos and then an article along with it.

Back in the day, models graced the covers and they did the photo spreads inside.  And you know they made big bucks doing it.

So I wonder why the change?  Why celebrities?  Is this society obsessed with celebrities?  Are they more exciting than super models?

It is very interesting to me.  It makes me wonder, too.  Do the celebrities get paid big bucks to do the covers and photo spreads inside? Hmmmm....and if so, what do they get paid?

I would certainly love to find out the scoop!!

Enjoy your day and happy shopping!

Target + Neiman Marcus

Another great collaboration!!!

Target + Neiman Marcus!!!!

Yesterday online I previewed the merchandise and absolutely loved everything.  And the designers they have from Tory Burch to Carolina Herrera to Jason Wu to Rag & Bone.  It is simply spectacular!!

I was able to go online and purchase a few things this morning, but I am wondering how the stores are doing.  Was it a mad rush when they opened their doors this morning?  Do you remember the Missoni for Target launch?  It was complete ciaos.  Customers were fighting over the merchandise.

I believe that these relationships, whether it's between two stores  or designers and stores, are just brilliant.  Why not bring high price fashion to the average person?  Why keep those luxury goods to the rich?  Why not let the middle class have those goods, too?

Congratulations to Target again!!  How can you not love that store!!

Enjoy your day and happy shopping!

Black Friday Shopping

Black Friday, or should I say Black Thursday, has come and gone.  And did any of you brave the crowds and shop?  I certainly did not, and I never ever do!!!

It's absolutely crazy that stores are opening up on Thanksgiving night like at 8pm and 9pm.  What happened to the holiday?  What happened to a day off of work?  All of the CEO's of these retailers don't understand that their employees really do not want to be there.  Don't they deserve a day off before the crazed holiday shopping season?

As I was driving back to our hotel from my aunt and uncle's home in Arizona, we passed by a Target around 9:45.  Yes, we were in Arizona for the week, and it was the best idea yet!!!  It was packed.  I couldn't believe the parking lot.  And drove right past it, not even hesitating.  Being in this industry for a million years, I hate Black Friday and hate shopping on that day, too.

Here's funny thing, too.  I was reading the USA Today Newspaper the day before Thanksgiving, poolside, and they had a great article about a women shopping all day on Black Friday last year.  She hit all the stores with the greatest door buster deals.  When she got home, she went online and discovered that some of her purchases she made were a lot cheaper online.  She was not happy to say the least.

My husband did venture out on Saturday back here in Chicago.  I do miss that 80 degree weather in AZ.  He went to Costco to buy a laptop.  That's where he thought was the best deal.  When he brought it home, I showed him the Costco brochure of coupons that starts on Monday.  Then he decided to go online and yes, he did find a better and cheaper one online at Costco.  Go figure!!  He didn't have to deal with the crowds and go out at all in this cold weather.  He could have stayed home and bought it online.  Well, he is returning the one on Monday that he bought at the store, and did purchase the one online.

So, the moral of the story is to check online prices first before you go out and shop.  You might find better deals there.

Enjoy your day and happy shopping!

Sorry!!

Sorry!!  I know that it has been awhile since I have wrote in my blog.  And I apologize for that.

I think life just got in the way.  It seems like I have been getting pulled in a million different ways.  Between work, volunteering, kids' activities, family obligations...I am totally exhausted.

I guess it's a mom thing.  And I know all of you moms out there will understand.  And I feel like all I do is run around, drive my kids from here to there, doing this and that...then next thing I know, it's 10:30 at night, and I feel like I got nothing done that I wanted to that day.

Does anybody else feel that way out there?  Still haven't done my laundry yet.  Got the kids' laundry done today.  At least they will have clean clothes tomorrow.  Not me, though.  Picked up the dry cleaning today so my husband will have clothes to wear to work tomorrow.  Everyone is taken care of, not me though.

Last week I wore the same pair of jeans, four days in a row.  It was just easier to do that.  Of course, the others were dirty and still are dirty.  Remember, haven't done my laundry yet.

I did shower today, but at 2:45 in the afternoon, right before the kids got home from school.  Didn't wash my hair, though.  That would take too much time.  Just threw it up in a pony tail.  And threw on the jeans I wore yesterday.  That's okay.  I will try and do my laundry tomorrow.

I know, I shouldn't be complaining.  I got a roof over my head, healthy children, food on my plate, great clothes (when I wash them)....not a care in the world.  I guess I am just tired.

And on that note, I am ready to go to bed.  Good night to you all!!

Enjoy tomorrow!!

Christmas? So Soon?

Christmas???  Already???  So soon???

When I was shopping for Halloween items at Target back in October, just behind those items were Christmas merchandise.  The back wall was full of Christmas items.  It was interesting to me that when they put out the Halloween merchandise, they also put out the Christmas ones.

For me, personally, I feel that it was too early for those Christmas items to be displayed.  Why, when I am trying to get thru Halloween, would I even consider buying anything for Christmas.  I kinda like to take it one day at a time, one holiday at a time.

How do you feel about it?  I know in some stores, they put out their Christmas merchandise in September.  How crazy is that?!?!  I believe in being organized but shopping for Christmas in September is not for me.

My daughter, however, is redoing her Christmas wish list today.  Yes, she already did hers once.   She was actually showing me items she wanted in the Target Toy catalog we received with the newspaper today.  I am really not ready for the holidays.

How about you?  Let me know your thoughts.

Enjoy your day!

Cold Weather

Well, yesterday here is Chicago, it was 78 degrees.  It was such a beautiful day.  And it was sunny for most of the day.  Then around 6pm the weather turned ugly.  The temperatures dropped, the clouds came in, and the rain started coming down in buckets.  When I dropped off my daughter at dance class at 5:30pm, it was 75 degrees.  When I picked her up at 7:15pm, it was 55 degrees.  Then when we woke up this morning at 7:15am, it was 37 degrees.  Yikes!!!  I guess the cold weather is here and staying for awhile.

My outfit for today was completely opposite from yesterday.  The rolled up jeans, the short sleeve top, the ballet flats are gone.  Today, it was full length skinny jeans, knee high boots, and a warm and chunky long cardigan sweater.  But at least the sun was out today.

I guess here in the Midwest, it's definitely time to change our way of dressing.  For the next week, the temperatures will reach only up into the high 40's.  So, what can we wear now?

My suggestions are as follows: chunky sweaters or chunky long cardigans, long sleeve tops, jeans, ankle boots or knee high boots, a fun scarf, a cool hat.

What you don't need now and what can wait til the temps go down further:  heavy down jackets, snow boots, ski wear, insulated gloves.

You don't want to layer up too much because you might be sweating when you're indoors.  Your fall coat or jacket will work fine.  But add a fun scarf, a scarf that you wouldn't wear during a blizzard.

And honestly, please put away those flip flops.  Unless you are getting a pedicure, they need to go bye bye.

Enjoy your day!

Deals and Steals!

I was shopping a few weeks ago for some winter clothing for my children, and I stumbled upon some amazing deals.  I really couldn't believe it.
So, here are a few things that I found:

Tory Burch trouser jeans - originally $195 - paid $15
Alice + Olivia ivory tweed blazer - originally $550 - paid $35
Vince burgundy sweater -originally $195 - paid $25

It was absolutely crazy.   Now, what to do with them?

Should I turn this blog into a shopping website?  I buy the bargains, and I post them on my blog.  If you are interested in buying one, all you have to do is let me know (first come first serve basis).  You send me the money, and I will send you the item.  All you have to pay is the price of the item with tax and shipping.  I don't know.  What do you think?

I find so many bargains when I am shopping, maybe I should start sharing them with you.

What do you think?  Please let me know.

Enjoy your day!

The Ryder Cup

As most of you who live in the Chicagoland area know, this past weekend was the Ryder Cup Golf Tournement.  It was held at Medinah Country Club.  This tournement is held every two years alternating from the USA and Europe.  The top golfers from the USA go against the top golfers from Europe.

Now, I am not writing a sports article here.  I am commenting on the fashions from the Ryder Cup.  Thousands of Europeans decended upon Chicago to attend.  Basically, this is the Olympics of golf.

It was probably one of the best people watching venues that I have ever been to.  Really, it was amazing!  As for the Americans, everyone tried to out do everyone else as to how much red, white and blue you could wear and how outrageous you could wear it.  A few people even dressed up as Uncle Sam!  It was unbelievable!

The Europeans did not disappoint me either.  Wow!!!  They took it to a whole other level.  The European flag was blue with yellow stars on it in the shape of a circle.  A group of men wore blue morf suits with yellow stars on them and black curly wigs.  The British flag was represented in skirts, sequin shorts, capes, suits and very large hats.  It was absolutely crazy!!!  Oh, yes.  How could I forget all of the men I saw wearing kilts.  And no, I didn't ask what they were wearing underneath.

The first day I went, I wore dark blue denim rolled up jeans with a white and blue striped tee.  My son wore navy shorts and a white and navy Ralph Lauren tee with the American flag on it.  My daughter wore red skinny jeans and a red, white and blue top.  She was perfect!!!  The second day I wore white cropped jeans and a navy tee with a scarf.  I really didn't have any red to wear.  Bummer!!!

Then there were people who wore totally inappropriate clothing.  Really...do you need to wear a black flouncy dress with knee high black high heel stilettos to a golf tourney?!?!?  Did she not know that she was going to be walking around in the grass all day long?!?!?  Then there was this young girl (probably high school) with her mother, and she was wearing sequined British flag short shorts...short enough to see her cheeks hanging out.  I couldn't believe that she was allowed to leave the house wearing that!!!

Anyway, it was really fun attending that event for two days.  Too bad the Americans lost.  Actually, they totally lost it on Sunday...blew it.  They were leading going into Sunday and lost everything.  It was a shame.  But I did have such a good time.  And the weather was perfect.

Enjoy your day!

Fashion from the Emmy Awards

The Emmy Awards were held last night, and what a night it was!  I felt like I was watching the Oscars with all the ball gowns I saw.  Nobody was casually dressed like in years past.

I really wished that I could have seen the fashions in person.  I feel that the television doesn't portray them as well.  The colors are always off.  What I think is red is actually orange and vice verse.

So let's break down the fashions from that evening:

*It was a very fruity evening....colors like orange, tangerine, lime and lemon.

*The stars were shimmering in sequins, metallics and sparkle.

*Forget about straps and sleeves...it was all about the strapless dress.

Here were some other trends that I saw:  floral prints, halter style dresses, cobalt blue, lace, embellishment, and very skin tight dresses.

Who do I think looked good?  Tina Fey, Julie Bowen, Allison Williams, Jessica Lange, Sofia Vergara and Padma Lakshmi.

Who do I think didn't look quite up to par?  I'm not going to mention those celebrities.  They have already been raked over the coals by people in the media.

So let me ask you this.  Who was your favorite?

Enjoy your day!

Fall 2012 Trends

This morning when I woke up, I felt a chill in the air.  I turned on the TV right away to check out the weather.  I couldn't believe what I saw.  The temperature was 46 degrees.  Really?!?!  Already?!?!  Then I saw the ten day outlook.  I think the Chicagoland area will be in the 60's the entire week.   Good bye Summer!!

I guess fall is really here, which means the fall fashion season is upon us.
So let's look at the trends this season.........

1.     Trumpet hems.  Check out the skirts and dresses this season.  You will notice a little something extra around the hemline.  The fall skirts and dresses have a little flouncy to them this fall.

2.     Brocade.  Think about this...Renaissance meets 2012.  Fall brings us rich brocade fabrics and textures shown in all apparel from dresses to skirts to jackets.

3.    Burgundy.  I love this color!  Why? Because it goes with everything...denim, navy, charcoal, and black.  It's the perfect fall color.  You are seeing this color in accessories, shoes and clothing.

4.     Rugged Booties.  Ankle booties have been in fashion for awhile now, but this season they have become more rugged.  Wear these with jeans, skirts, and casual dresses.

5.     Military.  The military influence won't go away.  You are seeing it not only in jackets but in suits, pants, and dresses.

These are just some of the hot fall trends this season.  But there is so much more.  I promise to fill you in on some more.  Soon!!!

Enjoy your day!

Fashion Night Out Chicago

Last Thursday night, September 6th, was Fashion Night Out around the world.  Cities everywhere celebrated fashion and shopping in all different ways.

I was at Macy's at Water Tower Place in Chicago doing their FNO event.  They had the young fashion bloggers, The Girls of Lincoln Park, as their celebrity fashion stylists of the evening.  I was hired to create four clothing closets for each one of the bloggers to "display" apparel and accessories to their liking.

The girls were so sweet and a lot of fun.  But I think the hit of the night was the homemade cotton candy man.  I had organic salted caramel cotton candy.  It was absolutely unbelievable.  And apparently, it was only 100 calories.  Go figure!

Anyway, it was such a great place to be people watching.  I always love to check out what people wear to fashion events.  That's when individual styles come out.  And some are so outrageous.

Next year, I think all of you should try to attend a Fashion Night Out event in your area.

It was a fun evening and an exhausting evening for me.

Enjoy your day!

Sales!!

Now that the kids are back at school, I was able to hit some stores today to scope out the sales.  And boy were there ever some big sales.

At Nordstrom Rack, today started their huge clearance sale.  Wow!!  A ton of great designers were on sale.  Here's just a few:  Nannette Lepore, Trina Turk, Tory Burch, BCBG, Rachel Roy, Theory, Diane Von Furstenburg, and Kate Spade.

Then I walked on down to TJ Maxx.  This particular one has the Runway to the Maxx designer section.  It's unbelievable what that store carries.  Read the list and weep:  Tory Burch, Vince, Elizabeth and James, Nannette Lepore, Fendi, Louis Vuitton, Kate Spade, and a lot more.

If you can, I would check out these two stores.  It's really worth it.

Enjoy your day!

Macy's Glamorama

Wow!!  It has been a long time since I did my blog, and I apologize.  Life got in the way.

First I worked on Macy's big show Glamorama.  It was an hour long show that fused fashion, music and dance.  Basically, it's an extravaganza!!!  This year they used fashions from Donna Karan, Marc Jacobs, Jean Paul Gaultier, Sean John, Rachel Rachel Roy, Bar III, Tommy Hilfiger, and Macy's Men's Impulse.

What fall trends were shown:  burgundy, denim, fur, military, suits, and leather.

I love working on this show not only because of the fashions, because I love working with my two good friends who are also stylists.  It's an over the top show with over the top fashions.

Now it's back to reality and the kids start school tomorrow.  And I am making them look very nice for their first day.  They need to make a good impression!

Enjoy your day!

Sorry!!!!

Sorry everyone!!!

I can't believe that it has been six days since my last blog!!  Where has the time gone??  Oh, I know!!  It's the summer, and my kids only have two more weeks left until school starts.  Bummer!!

Needless to say, I haven't been shopping a lot lately at all, except at Target.  So I really don't have much to report on in the shopping area.

But........This Friday I will be working on a huge fashion/music show for Macy's called Glamorama.  It fuses music, dance and fashion all in a one hour show.  This year the headliner is Robin Thicke then Karmin.  Should be great!!!

I will definitely report back on it for all of you.  Until then, happy shopping and happy summer!!  Enjoy both while you can!

CUSP by Neiman Marcus

Yesterday I was shopping in downtown Chicago with my kids and stopped by CUSP by Neiman Marcus.  Yes, I was actually allowed to spend 15 minutes in a store for me.  Not the American Girl Doll store and not a sports store...a real store.

I love this store.  Not only does it have great contemporary lines (young designer lines) but they have absolutely great accessories.  Not only are they fabulous, but they are inexpensive, too.  I bought the coolest gold stretch bracelet for only $15.  Then I found the perfect gold hoop earrings for only $28.  Yes..at CUSP by Neiman Marcus.

I would highly recommend stopping by this store and checking out their merchandise, especially their accessories.  And yes, they won't break your bank!!

Enjoy your day!

Outlet Malls

Last weekend I was up at my mother's lake house and decided to stop by the outlet mall.  I took daughter along with me so she could give me the thumbs up or down on my shopping finds.

It was amazing to me to see how so many of the stores were carrying fall merchandise.  I was still shopping for some summer items especially since the heat wave is still going on in the Chicagoland area.

So many of the stores' summer merchandise was picked over.  And only one store, J. Crew, had their summer clearance an additional percentage off.

It was a really disappointing shopping trip.  My daughter only bought something at Claire's Boutique, remember that store from years ago. Yes, it is still around.  I did find a great hat at Burberry for a deal.  And it's for winter!!!  So cute!  And only the trim of it is lined in the Burberry signature plaid.  I think it was only $34.

Anyway, it will be interesting when I go back in August to see what they have in stock or what sales will be going on.  I will be doing some back to school shopping so I will report back to all of you and let you know.

Enjoy your day!

Magazines

I have started to receive the August issues of magazines.  Most of them have a section on fall trends.  Fall, which equals heavy fabrics, pants, jeans, sweaters, coats, etc.  It is so hard to think about fall when we have another heat advisory for our area.

Really, it is 100 degrees again.  I can't even imagine trying on a sweater let alone a pair of jeans.  How uncomfortable!!  I think they would stick to my body as I perspire!

So, my question is.....when would it be okay to think about fall merchandise?  When would it be alright to even try on fall apparel?

I am not sure the answer to that.  I guess it depends on the weather.

Enjoy your day!

Stay cool!!

Shopping!

My daughter and I have been able to do a little bit of shopping lately, which is shocking. My children's schedules have been crazy.  So, we have been sneaking it in while my son has been at golf and lacrosse.

Where did we go?

We hit Oak Brook Mall, which is in a suburb of Chicago.  They have every store from H&M to Neiman Marcus.  Then we hit TJ Maxx and Marshalls.  My daughter found something at Gap Kids (additional 40% off sale items), Claire's Boutique, TJ Maxx and Marshalls.

I found a floral scarf and a top at H&M.  And at the Gap, I found a pair of shorts and a top.  At TJ Maxx, I did buy myself a Cole Haan wallet.  It was $54, originally $184.  Not too shabby!!!  And another pair of shorts.  With this heat, it's hard to wear anything else!!!  Shorts and spaghetti strap tops!!!

Where are we off to next?

When we got home from our shopping trip, my daughter wanted to know if my son has golf and lacrosse next week.  I said yes.  Then, of course, she asked if we could go shopping again.  So, I am thinking that we should hit Nordstrom Rack. I haven't been there in ages.  Then hit the other TJ Maxx that has the Runway to the Maxx.  They have been carrying Jimmy Choo, Tory Burch, Nannette Lepore,  and Fendi.  It's unbelievable!!!

I will definitely report back to you with what I find!!

Happy Shopping!!

Enjoy your day!

Looks for Less

I was just checking out People Style Watch magazine's website and loved the section on the looks for less.  They show photos of celebrity's looks and how to get them for a whole lot less.

My favorite part isn't the prices, it's the actual looks that the celebrities are wearing.  Now, to be honest with you, I normally don't follow celebrities and what they wear.  I just fell upon this website.  It was interesting to me that the majority of them wore scarves with their summer looks.  They weren't wore tight around the neck, just a little loose and open.

Also, a lot of them were wearing flat sandals.  Very flat sandals.  They were cute and strappy.  Then they went to the extreme and were sporting the highest platform sandals.  There was absolutely nothing in between.

Then finally, most of them were wearing the maxi dress.  It's comfy and cozy.  And of course, they accessorized it with the summer scarf and the flat sandal.  Go figure!

Enjoy your day!!

Happy 4th of July!!!!

Happy July 4th!!!

I hope that all of you have a wonderful holiday.  Bring on the red, the white and the blue!!

It's the perfect time to sport white shorts or white jeans, nautical striped tees in blue and white, navy pique shorts, red cropped pants, big white bangles, that great red canvas belt, and whatever else you own in those colors.

As for me, I will be wearing my white shorts (the temp is close to 100 here) and my blue and white striped nautical inspired tee.  As for my shoes, maybe I'll wear my Cole Haan white bow flat sandals or my Stuart Weitzman clear jelly and rhine flip flops.  I think my red DVF high heel wedges will be too much for a picnic and fireworks!!!

Anyway, I hope that you have a good 4th of July!!  And don't forget...the stores are open and there are a lot of sales going on!!!

Enjoy your day!!!

Flat Sandals!!!

The official first day of summer isn't until another week and a half, but it seems like summer in the Chicagoland area with this heat.  As the temperature rise past 90 degrees today, who in their right mind would want to wear a statement necklace.  You want to feel cool as a cucumber in this heat and wearing a huge necklace could make you feel too hot.

So, instead of wearing a statement necklace, why don't you wear statement flat sandals.  They are a great look for any outfit, and keep you nice and cool during the hot summer.  And yes, they are easy to walk in!!

The flat sandals this year are so fabulous. They come in all different colors, textures, styles and price points.

Here's the hottest ones out there for you to chose from:

1. Gold metallic embellished sandals from the Gap for $39.95.
2. Turquoise and leather sandals with crystal details from Carlos by Carlos Santana for $59.
3. Taupe suede tassel sandals from Stuart Weitzman for $298.
4. Coral patent leather with silver sandals from Vince Camuto for $69.
5. Orange t-strap sandals from Banana Republic for $79.
6. Pewter RACHEL Rachel Roy strappy sandals for $120.

You can wear these sandals with anything...t-shirt dresses, swim suit cover ups, short shorts, dresses and cropped pants.  They are versatile, stylish and will be your go-to item this summer.

Make a statement with statement flat sandals!!

Enjoy your day!

Lemon Yellow!

Here's comes the summer and here's comes the sunshine!!  No, I am not talking about the actually sun, and I am talking about the color yellow.

We all know that the color orange has been the hottest trend this spring and summer, but yellow is definitely coming in second place.

I am not talking about pale, soft yellow.  I am talking about bright and bold yellow.  I have seen yellow everywhere.

First let's start with the clothing:  yellow swim suits from H&M for $14.95, a yellow blouse from Vince Camuto for $79, a yellow sleeveless dress from H&M for $29.95, yellow shorts from J. Crew for $45, yellow pants from Tibi for $450, and a yellow sweater from Top Shop for $60.

Then there are the shoes:  yellow bow jelly flip flops from Express for $24.90,  J. Crew yellow canvas flats for $34.95, yellow flat sandals from J. Crew for $128, and yellow and silver flat sandals from Calvin Klein for $69.

How about the other accessories:  a yellow and black watch from Sprout for $75, pale yellow nail polish from M.A.C., a yellow rubber and leather tote at Henri Bendel's for $148, yellow and gold necklace from the Trina Turk Collection at Banana Republic, and yellow drop flower earrings from DKNY + BaubleBar for $132.

Yes, the color yellow is everywhere!  If it's too bright and bold for you to wear, then start small.  Add just a small accessory to see if you like it.  Who knows?  You might love it!

Enjoy your day!

Toms Shoes

Next week is my daughter's birthday, today was my mom's and last week was my son's.  May is such a crazy month!!  All I have been doing is shopping for birthday gifts.  My son only put four items on his birthday wish list, and two of them were money and gift cards.  He turned 11.

My daughter, on the other hand, had 40 items on her birthday wish list.  I am not kidding.  But the number one thing on her list was a pair of TOMS Shoes.

TOMS Shoes is a great brand.  With every pair that is purchased, TOMS will give a pair of new shoes to a child in need.  Their trademark is One for One.  How can you not like this brand!

So off we went to Nordstrom to find her shoes.  She decided on the pink glitter ones.  Which I have to say, are a lot cuter than the canvas ones.  And they looked so cute on her.  She thought she could wear them right away, but I said that she had to wait until her actual birthday.  I know, I am a mean mom.

I really think TOMS shoes are cute on kids, even teenagers, but I think there is an age limit to them.  That day, I saw a women (probably my age) wearing them.  It just didn't look right.  And she had them on with black dress pants.  Not good.  I think they are definitely for the young, not for the young at heart!

Enjoy your day!

H&M

Yes, I am getting in all of my shopping before the kids get out of school.  This time I hit H&M.  What a great selection of clothes at such reasonable prices!

They had sleeveless, round neck tops with a small keyhole tie front for only $4.95.  I bought one in coral and one in a very pal pink.  They also had them in lemon yellow, black and ivory.

Then I bought a cap sleeve ivory top with a floral print on the front for only $12.95.  Remember, floral prints are in!!

One of their other specials were on short skirts in stone and cobalt blue priced at only $9.95.  Unbelievable!

H&M is a great place to shop for summer items.  I tend to spend more money on my winter clothes, of course, because of the fabrics, etc.  So it's nice to spend less on summer clothes.  And if I don't like the items the next year, I don't feel guilty getting rid of them because they didn't cost a lot.

H&M always has great styles and trends, and you won't break the bank.  So try it....you'll love it!

Enjoy your day!

TJ Maxx

I haven't stopped by TJ Maxx in a long time.  Shocking, I know.  So today I decided to make a quick pit stop there to see what was new and what designers they were carrying.

There are a a number of TJ Maxx stores that have the Runway to the Maxx store within a store.  These particular stores carry designers and brands like Catherine Malandrino, Vince, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Valentino, Missoni, Kate Spade, Gucci and Fendi.  Yes, crazy!!  You never know what you will find when you go there.  It's so much fun!

Today, I could not believe what great designers they were showcasing.  There were handbags by Fendi, Jimmy Choo and Prada.  I am not kidding you.  I checked out the shoe department, and they had Gucci, Kate Spade, Coach, Ugg and Dolce & Gabbana.  Truly unbelievable!  As for the apparel, I saw everything from Theory, Vince, Escada, Helmut Lang, Nannette Lepore and much, much more.

I highly recommend going to a TJ Maxx store as soon as you can.  But make sure they carry the Runway to the Maxx designers.  It's worth the drive and the time.

Enjoy your day!

Flowers in Bloom!

How does that saying go....April showers bring May flowers!!  Well, it looks like designers and retailers alike are really making the saying come true.  Floral prints are everywhere!!!

Florals are a great way to brighten up your wardrobe, especially after wearing all of those dark colors during the winter.  It's a way to be feminine and romantic and ladylike and flirty all in one.

Let's start with dresses.  Floral dresses are everywhere and at every price point and style.  Vince Camuto, Shoshanna, Marc by Marc Jacobs and American Eagle Outfitters all have simple floral print dresses that range in price from $39.50 to $398.  Try pairing them with a cute flat sandal or a high heel wedge sandal.  Or try adding a wide leather belt.  These floral dresses are so much fun for day and night.

Now, how about jeans...yes, jeans!!  Floral feminine printed jeans are the hottest denim trend.  Denim lines like J Brand and Citizens of Humanity are showing this trend.  The style is skinny and tight, so wear an over sized top and hat with ballet flats or flat sandals.  So cute!!

Then there are the accessories!!  Purses, scarves and shoes!!!  If some of you are afraid to wear florals, a good way to try them is with an accessory.  Lovely People and Libby Edelman are showing floral print ballet flats that are $79.  A subtle way to add a floral print to your look.  Aldo Shoes has a floral faux leather chain strap clutch handbag for $40.  You can't beat that!  And of course, every store has floral scarves.  Go to one of your local boutiques to grab one of those and support small businesses.

So instead of buying flowers at your florist, go buy yourself some floral print clothes!!  They will last longer.

Enjoy your day!

Spring/Summer Scarves!

What's a good way to add some life to an outfit?  How about a scarf!  Instead of wearing a necklace or two, try wrapping a scarf around your neck to add some flair.

The spring/summer scarves are much different than your winter ones.  They are made from lightweight fabrics so you won't get a major hot flash when you wear them.  They also come in a variety of great summer colors to match everything in your closet.

I just love the idea of adding a pop of color to your look with a scarf.  And the best way to try color, if you are afraid, is to add that colorful scarf.   It's also an inexpensive way, too.  You are not going to break the bank by buying a scarf.  Well, unless you buy one the silk black and white Diane von Furstenberg one.  That will set you back $185.

I bought one last week at a local boutique in my neighborhood.  It's coral, brown, gold and ivory.  It goes with a lot of my clothing.  I think it cost me less than $20 and that was with tax.  I also bought one at the J.Crew Outlet, that was also less than $20.  It's a long rectangle one that starts out with orange and fades into white.  I love it, especially to wear with all of those summer white clothes.

So, march on down to your local boutiques or to the mall and buy yourself a scarf.  You will really get a lot of use out of it and absolutely love it.

Enjoy your day!

MAC Cosmetics

Today I spent a few hours at the mall doing some errands.  I know what you're thinking, and no, I wasn't shopping for myself.  I had to do some returns and buy a birthday gift.  I also had to stop by the MAC cosmetic store.  I was completely out of my blush and concealer.  I literally was scraping the side of the containers to get every bit out.

I brought in all of my empty MAC makeup containers, too.  Did you know that if you bring in six to the store, you get a free lip gloss or lip stick.  Yes, you get one of those free.  I love that deal, and I love the idea of recycling...being green.

It's a great way to try a new color for your lips.  When it's free, you don't care as much if you don't like it.  You don't feel like you are wasting your money.

Today was different, though.  I was also offered, as my free item, an eye shadow.  I have never been offered an eye shadow before.  It must be a new thing there.  Of course, I decided on that but not before consulting the sales associate first.  I wanted to find something different, and she helped me pick a color that matched my skin type.  I was so excited!!  What a great opportunity to try something new, and once again, not feel like you wasted your money.

You should try MAC Cosmetics.  They have great products and aren't too expensive.  But remember to keep your empty containers.

Enjoy your day!

Spring Cleaning

Well, it's that time of year again.  It's spring which means time to clean your house and your closet.  We have been going crazy here at my house doing our spring cleaning.  And we still have a lot to do.

I already did my kids' closets.  Made them try on everything.  Oh, they hated that, but I had to find out what still fit them.  Then I started on my closet.  At the beginning of the year, I turned around my hangers in my closet and had them facing out.   After I wore an item, I put it back in my closet (after dry cleaning, washing or whatever) the right way, facing in.  I know that it's only April, but I can't believe how many of my hangers were still facing out.  That means I wear the same things over and over again.  Interesting!!  And I do plan on doing this for the whole year.

I also found that I hadn't worn a lot of my winter sweaters.  Now, was that because of the warm weather or because I was wearing the same things again and again?  Last year at the end of winter, I bought a lot of winter clothes on clearance.  And I was still able to wear them because in Chicago, the cold weather and winter lasts way into April.  But this year, our winter was cut short.  It was 70 and 80 degrees in March.  As I went to the clearance sales at stores, I found myself not wanting to buy those winter clothes.  Who wants to buy a heavy winter sweater when it's 70 degrees outside.  Who even wants to try it on?

I ended up buying some spring clothes, which happened to be on sale.  Go figure!  I wonder if retailers were able to sell those heavy winter clothes.  Were they able to get rid of them?  Retailers have spring clothes on sale already.  The weather has made retailers rethink everything this year.  I know that my shopping habits changed a little bit this year due to the weather.  What do you think?

Enjoy your day!

Favorite Spring Purchases!

My family and I just got back from our spring break vacation.  We were at Key West and North Palm Beach, Florida.  The weather was absolutely beautiful..sunny and warm, just the way I like it.  And who knew that Key West was 90 miles north of Cuba and it's the southernmost point of the USA.

Now it's back to reality.  Kids are back at school.  I have been doing loads of laundry and driving the kids to all of their activities...I wish I was back down there!!

However, I did have fun shopping for our vacation beforehand.  So I wanted to tell you about my favorite purchases for the trip.

Since we lived at the beach and pool, I couldn't have done without my swimsuit cover ups.  I bought a Kelly green and a orange/coral cover up.  One was from TJ Maxx and the other one was from Marshall's.  They were both $14.99.  They were cotton and rayon, a-line, lightweight, had capped sleeves, and a tie-cinched high waist with a keyhole.  I loved them and wore one everyday over my swimsuit.

As for my swimsuit, I tried on so many suits and got so frustrated.  I really hate trying them on.  I packed a halter style navy tankini from last year and bought a top to go with black bottoms from another very old suit.  I ended up finding that one at Target for about $19.  It was a tankini, black and white striped top that came with a removable strap.  It wasn't fitted which hid my muffin top.  I felt so comfortable in that suit!!!  And with the removable strap, I got no tan lines!!!!

I did ended up finding some Bermuda shorts.  I am too old to wear short shorts, and the longer ones hide my varicose veins on the back of my legs.  Shorts are a hard fit for me.  Some are too low in the waist, and I always have problems with the length.  I found a white pair and a green pair at the Gap Outlet.  The style is called Hadley, and they weren't too low in the waist and weren't too long on me.   And they had a special on them, $14 each.  Yea!!!!!

All in all, I was very happy with my vacation purchases.  While down in Key West, I did find a cool pair of mirrored aviator sunglasses at a surf shop.  I fell in love with them and had to have them.  My husband, son and daughter all had to buy the hippie cool braided ankle bracelets.  And yes, they still have them on.  They are trying to hang on to our trip as long as possible.  My son and daughter also got Key West t-shirts, of course.  I did buy myself a bracelet from a local artist.  It's silver, has clear crystal small beads and small ball gold beads.  Simple yet cute.  We didn't go too crazy buying stuff.  We were too busy doing other things.  Plus, I did enough shopping before our trip.

Enjoy your day!

What to Wear with This Crazy Weather!

Sorry it's been a week since I've blogged, but I am on spring break.  We were in Key West, FL for five days, and now we are in North Palm Beach, FL.  It is great to get away and go somewhere warm.  But it would feel better if it was snowing back in Chicago.  Our weather has been absolutely crazy there.  Seven days straight of record breaking high temperatures and no snow whatsoever!!1

So, the question I have been getting from so many women is if they can wear white in March in Chicago?  I say yes!  When it's 80 degrees, you can wear white.  When it's 40 degrees in March, it's a no.  Wearing winter white is fine, but not your summer white.

I know that the old rule of wearing white was wear it only between Memorial Day and Labor Day, but that rule is old news.  Fashion rules are made to be broken.  And with this warm weather, anything goes.  On St. Patrick's Day, it was 83 degrees and very sunny so I broke out my green shorts instead of wearing my green sweater.

So when it's warm and sunny and it's March, yes, you can wear white.  But don't go wearing you white summer cloths when it's 40 degrees, unless it's June or July.

Enjoy your day!!

Spring Break Shopping!

For the last couple of weeks I have been power shopping for our spring break vacation.  We are headed to Key West, FL.  Now, I know what you are thinking, but it wasn't all for me.  My kids grew out of everything!!!  I literally have been driving all over the place looking for vacation clothes for them.  I am exhausted!!

As for me, I have been trying to find a swimsuit that fit me and actually looks halfway decent.  I have bought so many suits, brought them home, tried them on and then had to return them.  To be honest with you, I absolutely hate shopping for swimsuits.  It's the worst thing ever!  I did end up buying just a swim top at Target to wear with old bottoms I had that I know fit fine.  It's better than nothing.  I swear, swimsuit shopping is so frustrating.

Then there are shorts.  There are short shorts, and mid-length shorts and Bermuda (knee length) shorts.  The short shorts are more flattering on me because I'm vertically challenged.  They make my legs look longer.  However, I am too old for those, and they exposed the awful veins on the back of my legs.  The mid-length ones aren't bad, but sometimes they can looked too old for me (if you know what I mean).  My favorites are the Bermuda shorts, the slimmer ones not the wider ones.  They hide all of my varicose veins!!!  And the slimmer ones make my legs look a little bit longer.  And I need all the help I can get!  The problem being my lack of height.  Some of those shorts look like I am wearing Capri's.  And I hate Capri's!!!  Yes, I have tried on a ton and bought just one at the Gap Outlet, go figure.

What I did find was some great swimsuit cover ups.  There were so many to choose from.  I bought two of the same style cover up but different colors...one orange/coral (of course) and the other Kelly green.  They are like A-line lightweight cotton dresses with cap sleeves and a drawstring just below the chest that ties.  I just love them!!  What a find!  They were only $14.99 a piece, one at TJ Maxx, and the other one at Marshalls.  I love getting a bargain!

Then there were the dresses.  So fun and so casual!!  And every store has them at every price point and every style possible.  The dresses that I liked were the ones with a little puff 3/4 or short sleeve, a slight drop elastic waist and fell above the knee.  I love these dresses, and I love bringing them on vacation.  Why?  Because they are no brainers.  Just throw them on and off you go.  No separates which mean no mixing and no matching .  And think about the packing...it's less to pack, which means more room for shoes!

So off to Key West we go.  Hopefully with good weather!  And I hope all of you have good luck with your spring and summer shopping.

Enjoy your day!

Neiman Marcus Ads!

Sorry I haven't blogged in awhile!  Too busy this weekend celebrating St. Patrick's Day with friends.  No, I'm not Irish...just that day.  It was 83 degrees in Chicagoland!! Can't beat that!  I was sporting my green shorts.  So crazy!  And some people were wearing white jeans and shorts!  Why not?!?! Yes, it's March, but in was in the 80's.  The sun was shinning.  It was hot.  You got to go for it!

Okay, now back to the Neiman Marcus Ads.  I was reading the March issue of Vogue and noticed that Neiman's did this amazing advertisement that looked like a "pull-out".  It stated, "The Art of Fashion" by Mark Abrahams featuring Susan Sarandon and Eva Amurri Martino (her daughter).  You turn the page and it states, "A New Dawn.  A New Day.  A Fashion Story Spanning Two Generations."  How brilliant and how smart and how absolutely fabulous!

Both Susan and her daughter look stunning, sporting looks from Tom Ford, Oscar de la Renta, Gucci, Chanel, Valentino, Prada, Etro, Donna Karan New York, etc.  They both look sexy and fashionable, which is exciting to see.  It means that is doesn't matter what age you are, you can look great, too.

Neiman Marcus completely captured two generations, two demographics all at once.  They are so smart!!  I hope you were able to catch of glimpse of this ad.  So cool!!

Enjoy your day!

Metallic Shoes for Spring!

Metallic shoes are a big fashion trend this spring.  You are seeing them in every store, in every fashion publication and at every price point.

What do I love about metallic shoes?  They are so versatile.  You can wear them with anything and everything from cute short shorts to pencil skirts to cropped jeans to dressy dresses.

I also love that metallic shoes can add some shimmer and shine to your look.  Forget about your basic black pump or your neutral nude slingback...replace those with a metallic shoe.  It can really add some life to your look, and it will go with everything.

Here are some that I love:
*Sigerson Morrison metallic leather and Lucite T-strap sandal $395
*Boutique 9 copper metallic pump $120
*Zara "Laminated Heel Sandals" in goatskin, silver and faux leather $90
*Marc Jacobs Mary Jane silver metallic pump $645
*Nine West platform metallic sandals (price unknown)

Because I love this trend so much, I bought a pair of Kors T-strap flat silver sandals for my daughter.  I really wish they had them in my size!!!

So, if you want to purchase a new pair of sandals this spring, you should buy a metallic pair and add some spice to your wardrobe.

Enjoy your day!

Marni at H&M

It's Thursday, March 8th, and Marni is officially at selected H&M stores.  These selected stores opened at 8am this morning in anticipation of huge crowds storming in to buy up the Marni collection.

I got the email promoting the line.  I saw the ads in magazines.  And I have to say, it looks great.  Haven't seen it up close and personally, but it looks so cute.

The Italian designer Consuelo Castiglioni, who designs for Marni, hit it big by doing this collaboration with H&M.  Once again high design goods are available for everyone.

I have two favorite pieces in the collection.  The blue and orange color blocked halter neck dress with a tie back that's only $80.  The second being the polka dotted sleeveless top for only $70.  Oops!!  I forgot to mention the platform shoes in black and green with a wood heel.  Those are to die for and only $99.

Teaming up with Marni, was another big hit for H&M.  Kudos to both of them!!

Enjoy your day!

Elf Cosmetics

I love Elf Cosmetics!!

I was at Target last week.  I know, nothing new for me.  But I was looking for a creme type blush, along with a million other things for my kids.  I like putting a little creme blush on my cheeks before putting on my powder blush so it lasts longer.  I was using something from Almay, but they discontinued it.  I hate it when that happens.

So as I was wandering around the cosmetics aisles, I noticed the Elf cosmetic line.  Everything was a dollar.  Yes, one dollar!!  I thought WOW!!
How perfect!!  I love it!!  It's a great way to try something new without breaking the bank.  And if you don't like that product, who cares!!  You only spent one dollar.

I saw this small creme color stick that was perfect.  And, of course, it was a dollar.   So I bought it, and I love it!!  Go figure!!  A one dollar cosmetic product that I love it.  Who would of thought that it was good?

What a way to try something new!  I highly recommend trying the Elf cosmetic line.  Why not!  You have nothing to lose but a buck!!

Enjoy your day!

Oscars Fashions 2012!!!

The 84th Academy Awards are over, and what a night!!

I was so glad that they brought back Billy Crystal.  He certainly made the evening.  And it didn't go too long!  Bravo!!!

The fashions were unbelievable.  I have to say that they didn't disappointment me at all.

The big color trends on the red carpet were red, black and white.  So many stars wore white from Rooney Mara to Gwynth Paltrow to Shailene Woodley.  White was so hot at the Oscars.

Another big trend was red lips.  From Rooney Mara to Angelina Jolie...make up artists painted those lips pure red to match the red carpet.

And what about the hair!!!  It seemed like a lot of stars wore their hair down and swooped around to one side cascading down on one side in front.  Also, many women wore their hair down.  From Jessica Chastain to Nina Garcia to Glenn Close.

Okay, let's get back to the dresses!

I loved Michelle Williams strapless tulle tiered coral/red Louis Vuitton gown with a diamond bow on her tiny waist.  She had simple hair, simple makeup and simple jewelry.  An understated elegant look.

Viola Davis stood out in her emerald green strapless fitted dress by Vera Wang.  I loved how she went natural with her hair.  No wigs for the Oscars!!  And how 'bout her earrings!!  To die for!!!

According to Facebook and Twitter, Jessica Chastain was the #1 best dressed.  She wore a Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen strapless black and gold embroidered gown.  And did you check out her makeup?  Subtile cat eyes!!

One of my favorites was Octavia Spenser.  She has looked fabulous this whole award season.  Her blush sequin gown by Tadashi Shoji was stunning.  And just because you are not a size double zero, doesn't mean you can't look amazing.  Her gown accentuated and flattered her curvy figure.  She was perfect!!

Talking about curvy figures, did you see Melissa McCarthy?  She was wearing a custon Marina Rinaldi blush gown with beaded neck and waist.  An absolute perfect dress for her figure.

Now, everyone is talking about Gwynth Paltrow and her Tom Ford dress and cape.  My husband said that she looked like Princess Lei from Star Wars.  People absolutely loved it.  Honestly, she is probably the only one who could carry that look.

What did you think about Angelina Jolie's gown?  I loved the broch on the back.  She was wearing a black velvet Atelier Versace strapless gown with a very high slit, which she so proudly displayed for everyone.  However, she looked too skinny.  Did you see her arms?  It was skin on bones.

I thought it was fitting for Meryl Streep to wear a gold Lanvin gown.  How perfect since she won for best actress.  The portrait neckline really was flattering for her.  And did you notice that Oprah wore gold, too.  Interesting?

I have gone on forever, so let me quickly touch on the following:

*Tina Fey's Carolina Herrera navy gown with the black belt and peplum.
*Penelope Cruz'a Armani lavendar gown aka...Grace Kelly
*Cameron Diaz's Gucci Premiere off-white strapless fitted gown.
*Sandra Bullock's Marchesa black/white embellished gown with a beautiful back.
*Natalie Portman's Vintage Haute Couture Christian Dior red polka-dotted gown from 1954.
*Jennifer Lopez's Zuhair Murad '70's inspired gown.

Who did you like?  Who didn't you like?  Who looked amazing?  Who looked awful?

What do you think?

(I apologize for any spelling mistakes.  I'm so tired!!!)

Enjoy your day!
