Oscars Fashions 2012!!!

The 84th Academy Awards are over, and what a night!!

I was so glad that they brought back Billy Crystal.  He certainly made the evening.  And it didn't go too long!  Bravo!!!

The fashions were unbelievable.  I have to say that they didn't disappointment me at all.

The big color trends on the red carpet were red, black and white.  So many stars wore white from Rooney Mara to Gwynth Paltrow to Shailene Woodley.  White was so hot at the Oscars.

Another big trend was red lips.  From Rooney Mara to Angelina Jolie...make up artists painted those lips pure red to match the red carpet.

And what about the hair!!!  It seemed like a lot of stars wore their hair down and swooped around to one side cascading down on one side in front.  Also, many women wore their hair down.  From Jessica Chastain to Nina Garcia to Glenn Close.

Okay, let's get back to the dresses!

I loved Michelle Williams strapless tulle tiered coral/red Louis Vuitton gown with a diamond bow on her tiny waist.  She had simple hair, simple makeup and simple jewelry.  An understated elegant look.

Viola Davis stood out in her emerald green strapless fitted dress by Vera Wang.  I loved how she went natural with her hair.  No wigs for the Oscars!!  And how 'bout her earrings!!  To die for!!!

According to Facebook and Twitter, Jessica Chastain was the #1 best dressed.  She wore a Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen strapless black and gold embroidered gown.  And did you check out her makeup?  Subtile cat eyes!!

One of my favorites was Octavia Spenser.  She has looked fabulous this whole award season.  Her blush sequin gown by Tadashi Shoji was stunning.  And just because you are not a size double zero, doesn't mean you can't look amazing.  Her gown accentuated and flattered her curvy figure.  She was perfect!!

Talking about curvy figures, did you see Melissa McCarthy?  She was wearing a custon Marina Rinaldi blush gown with beaded neck and waist.  An absolute perfect dress for her figure.

Now, everyone is talking about Gwynth Paltrow and her Tom Ford dress and cape.  My husband said that she looked like Princess Lei from Star Wars.  People absolutely loved it.  Honestly, she is probably the only one who could carry that look.

What did you think about Angelina Jolie's gown?  I loved the broch on the back.  She was wearing a black velvet Atelier Versace strapless gown with a very high slit, which she so proudly displayed for everyone.  However, she looked too skinny.  Did you see her arms?  It was skin on bones.

I thought it was fitting for Meryl Streep to wear a gold Lanvin gown.  How perfect since she won for best actress.  The portrait neckline really was flattering for her.  And did you notice that Oprah wore gold, too.  Interesting?

I have gone on forever, so let me quickly touch on the following:

*Tina Fey's Carolina Herrera navy gown with the black belt and peplum.
*Penelope Cruz'a Armani lavendar gown aka...Grace Kelly
*Cameron Diaz's Gucci Premiere off-white strapless fitted gown.
*Sandra Bullock's Marchesa black/white embellished gown with a beautiful back.
*Natalie Portman's Vintage Haute Couture Christian Dior red polka-dotted gown from 1954.
*Jennifer Lopez's Zuhair Murad '70's inspired gown.

Who did you like?  Who didn't you like?  Who looked amazing?  Who looked awful?

What do you think?

(I apologize for any spelling mistakes.  I'm so tired!!!)

Enjoy your day!

It Happens Twice A Year!!

Yes, it's that time of the year again.  You know it happens twice a year...spring and fall...March and September.

What is it?  What happens?  Well, my mail person certainly knows the answers.  Why?  Because he has to carry those heavy magazines to my door.  Yes!!  It's the spring fashion trend issues (of course in September, it's the fall trend issues).

Vanity Fair is 3/4" thick, Vogue is 7/8" thick, and In Style is 3/4" thick, just to give you an example of a few.  And the weight of all three of them together equals 7 1/2 pounds.  And that's just three magazines.

It will take me twice as long to read through my March magazines.  But I think it will be worth it.

I want to say kudos to Vogue for putting singer Adele on the cover.  It was so refreshing to see her shapely figure and her beautiful face front and center instead of a size double zero celebrity or model.   Yes, size double zero is smaller than just a size zero.  And by the way, Vogue states that there is 606 pages of spring looks.  Wow!!  I can hardly wait!!!

Then there's Vanity Fair with their Hollywood Issue introducing the fresh young stars of 2012.  They grace the cover and then some, as the cover is a tri-fold version.  Young, thin and glamorized in their pastel (yes, a big spring trend) gowns looking like they belong in good old Hollywood of decades past.  And check out some of the other Hollywood stars inside the magazine.  The photos are so great!

On a side note...Do you also realize why these spring magazine issues are so thick?  ADS!!!!  Yes, advertisements!!  Somebody got to pay for these magazines and all of those pages!!!

So I hope you enjoy your March magazines!!  I certainly will!

Enjoy your day!

Orange is the Color!!!

Orange...mango...coral...whatever you want to call it...it's the hot color for spring!

My fashionable friend, Skip, is obsessed with it.  When we went shopping this past Sunday, all he talked about was orange, orange, and more orange.  And yes, he did pick up something orange, a belt, at Neiman's during our (really his) shopping spree.

Every store we went to had something in that color...pants, shorts, dresses, cardigans, jewelry, and jeans.  It was so refreshing to see that bright spring color.  So please don't be afraid to try it!!

For those of you that are skeptical about wearing orange, maybe you should start small.  C. Wonder has a gold and orange bangle for only $28.  H&M has an orange clutch handbag for only $17.95.  You could also try the Vince Camuto peep toe orange wedge shoes or the Lela Rose for Payless "Mapleton Wedge" in orange for only $54.  These are very subtle ways of wearing orange without going to crazy.  Accessories are the perfect way to try a color first.

If you are willing to try "wearing" the color, start off with an orange blouse from J. Crew for $98.  Or a pair of wide legged orange trousers by French Connection.  How about an orange maxi skirt by Mango (perfect name, right?) for $60.  And for full on orange, try the Nanette Lepore "Picture Day Dress".

If you don't want to wear all orange, try a touch of orange like the French Connection "Pippa" silk dress that's orange, tan and black.   Go to the Gap and get the orange, red and brown color blocked cardigan for only $55.

Go big or go small...just go orange!!!  Try it and see what you think.

Enjoy your day!!

Designers Partnerships with Real Stores

Everywhere I turn around, another designer is partnering with main stream stores.  Missoni did it with Target, and Karl Lagerfeld did it with Macy's.  The list goes on and on.

Why do these designers do this?  They want to create clothes for the average person and make sure that they can afford them, too. A lot of these designers sign a multi-million dollar contract with these stores, too.  That doesn't hurt either.

The newest one is Jason Wu for Target.  He designed the dress that Michelle Obama wore for the Inaugural party. The clothing is so cute and so affordable (or it wouldn't be at Target).

Then there's Marni at H&M.  That clothing line will hit the H&M stores on March 8, and they always do a great job when teaming up with a designer.  And most of the time, it sells out in a day.

And here's one for the kids!!  Diane Von Furstenburg has teamed up with Gap to create a clothing line for kids.  DVF loves Gap Kids!!  I got a sneak peak, and it so adorable.  I can't wait until it hits the stores on March 15th!  I will definitely buy something for my daughter.

These store and designer partnerships really have been too good to be true.  You can buy a designer item at a much lower price than their regular lines.  It's good for the designer to get out their name and make a lot of money.

I would definitely check out all of these lines at their respective stores.

Enjoy your day!

Ankle Strap Shoes!!!

Ankle Strap Shoes...another hot trend for spring!

Every magazine and every store and every website is showing ankle strap shoes for spring.  It doesn't matter what your style is...edgy, feminine, sexy, classic, simple, or girlie...there is an ankle strap shoe for you.

What I like about the ankle strap shoes for this spring is that fact that they come in different widths...super thin to super thick.  So depending on your body type, you can find one that will fit perfectly.  For example, I am vertically challenged so I have to be careful with ankle straps.  A thick bold color strap will cut the length of my leg and make me look even shorter.  If you have thicker ankles/calves, be careful the ankle strap is not too tight on you and cut off your circulation.

I recently purchased a wedge ankle strap sandal in a natural color.  That natural/nude color blends in with my skin tone to elongate my leg to make me look longer and taller.  I love that and need it!!!  When I tried on a white pair and a yellow pair, they really contrasted with my skin tone and "cut" my legs off.  Not exactly what I wanted.  I may be short, but my legs are even shorter!!!

Now....what to wear with these ankle strap shoes?  Skirts (pencil or full)...shorts...cropped pants (not capri's)...dresses.

Here are a few examples of some great ankle strap shoes:

*Tory Burch "Amina" linen and leather platform sandal
*Nine West "Lookglobal" faux leather heels with thick ankle strap
*Givenchy natural pencil heel
*LAMB natural suede pencil heel peep toe think ankle strap

On a side note....make sure you try them on and check them out in a full length mirror to see how they look on your legs.  You need to get the full effect.

Enjoy your day!

One More Sale!!!

Yes, there is one more sale that I have to tell you about.  It's at Zara.  The sale they are having right now is unbelievable.

For those of you who don't know the store Zara, let me tell you about it.

Think of Forever 21...trendy merchandise at very low prices.
Then think of H & M...trendy merchandise (better quality than Forever 21) at prices just slightly higher than Forever 21 but still low.

Then there's Zara.  Zara has great stylish fashionable merchandise with quality fabrics.  The prices are higher than H & M, but it's worth it.
Go to their website and check them out, or go to their store and see for yourself.

There are items as low as $9, $14, and $19.  The styles are cutting edge, the fabrics are amazing.  It's one of my fabric stores.  They also have a men's department.  And if you have kids or nieces or nephews, they have a great children's department.  I love it!!!  And so does my daughter!!!  I perfect place to buy gifts for kids!

So happy shopping!!  Treat yourself!!!  You deserve it!!

Enjoy your day!

Colored Jeans!!

Everywhere I look, whether it be fashion magazines or websites or stores, all I see for spring is colored jeans.  And I love this spring trend.

I love the skinny colored jean.  You can wear them tucked into boots, pair them with high heel wedge sandals or roll them up a little bit above the ankle and throw on a pair of ballet flats.  Totally cute!!!

What do you wear on top???  How about a crisp white blouse, a slim tank, a fitted short sleeve top, a dolmen sleeve blouse, a peasant top, a nautical striped tee, a blazer or an over sized cowl neck sweater.  Anything goes with colored jeans.

Here are the colors I have seen available:  green, red (of course), yellow, mint, purple, light pink, white (obvious) and cobalt blue.

So, where can we find these colored jeans?  Well, I was Target last week (no surprise), and I saw them there.  They had white, green, blue and red.  I couldn't believe it!  Here are some other brands that are carrying them:  Tommy Hilfiger, Joe's jeans, ASOS, Calvin Klein Jeans, 7 For All Mankind and the Gap.

I think I will definitely get myself a pair of colored jeans.  The question is...what color?  How about any color jean that actually fits me well, I will buy!!!

Enjoy your day!!
